GOD’S WAY

Heya Guys! how are you all doing?

I am Arushi.  Being a teen I really like to do lots of things.. And writing stories is one of them. :)

Hope you like it! this is my first story on this blog and any suggestions for improving the stories are welcome! :)

GOD’S WAY

It took place long long long ago, million years before the Christ was born….when science had developed so much that people forgot god…

A teenager’s group, Alexia, Ruby and Olive, were returning from school. They had had their Annual Science Fete, that day, and were exhausted. They started discussing the Fate and the topic diverted to science. Ruby exclaimed, “Hey guys! I heard that some scientist has answered why the flag waves at moon, where there is no air!” “Yes,” replied Olive, “and a team of fifteen men have just come back after staying on Mars for 3 months. They have told us all about its climate and physical features.” Alexia was astonished, “I say, science has answered many of those difficult, almost impossible, questions and have done various unbelievable things. By the way, Who is God? Grandma told me that he was a deity to be worshiped or something. But I don’t know for sure. ” Her friends looked blank and shook their heads. Then they continued chattering on different topics.

From heaven, God-king Indra happened to stumble on this conversation. He was watching the earth on his Everywhere Monitoring Screen (heaven had also quite advanced) and by chance heard this gossip. He was frustrated; it was not the first time this was happening. The new generation of that century hardly seemed to know him, let alone visiting temples and worship halls. Everyone was busy in their own lifestyles and duties. Before people at least knew him and asked help and prayed in difficulties but this age, the gadget age, seemed to do something else. They were only developing in science. He was also worried that so much development could result in manufacture of strong weapons and nuclear power plants. This was a serious threat and could start of world war III. He believed it was his duty to get something done about it. So, King Indra decided to call a meeting of celestial beings to discuss the happenings on earth.

In the meeting room, all gods, angels and fairies assembled, as decided. King Indra was at the head of the table. He told them of his concerns. He concluded his speech by “I am not annoyed because they have forgotten and stopped honoring us but because they are getting too big for their boots. They ought to be taught a lesson so that they recall who the supreme power is.” All gods nodded in agreement, except one, Varsha. She was just a novice, not experienced like the others.

Everyone looked up, surprised.

Brahma asked her, “Don’t you agree, Varsha?”

Varsha nodded and said “I know that it seems right to teach humans a lesson but I don’t want to be harsh. So I can’t agree till I hear your ideas. What are they?”

Vishnu, who was deep in thought, suggested “What about causing a climatic disaster like earthquake or flood. We can then destroy all or a part of those new technologies”.
Some gods were impressed, but King Indra said “this is not a good idea according to me. It doesn’t seem like a solution. They must feel in their hearts what they are doing is wrong.”

“What about saying we are displeased or something like that through sky, Aakashvani, you know” said Brahma, chief angel importantly.
Most gods looked at him mockingly. “What? They would think they have only imagined it or its some kind of demonstration of a new type of technology.” Brahma’s idea was [roved worthless.

Some more idiotic ideas were discussed like removing human brain or transferring to past. They were mostly all useless, but some were quite intelligent. It looked as if everyone was full of ideas which were streaming out. The gods and fairies were confused.

Varsha listened to all this attentively but silently. At last she said “Well, I think that if we, one of us, go down to earth finalize the conditions before implementing such a harsh plan. We may be mistaken and there may still be a number of people believing in us if not majority.”

This sounded so sensible that it gained immediate approval of all. So the first step to be taken was to go to earth and monitor the conditions of two-legged people. There was a vote and it was decided that Varsha, who was known for her good nature and sense of justice, was sent to do the task.

Varsha was to be transported to earth first, and search for a suitable disguise. She was supposed to use her supernatural powers only to be connected with heaven.
Varsha was scared that gods may destroy earth.

She thought. "The condition of humans was not very appealing. If their state was too bad then anything could be done to earth and she would be helpless. Already there were some very harsh suggestions which could be implemented easily. She had only postponed this for a short while."

She went to earth and decided to dress up as a teenager. A teenager was very observant and curious and she could easily ask questions without raising suspicion. She had changed her appearance well.

She concluded to be friends with children of her age, teenage, and ask them about science, believe in gods, angels etc to monitor that generation before their parents and grand parents. So she befriended and gained trust of Flora, Jake and Jane, kids of the house next door. Varsha had even taken up the name of Lucy to sound English.

She called at their house to ask for a drink of water and they fell in conversation. She had thought that she would not ask questions she wanted to ask for a few days. She took them in her trust. They called her every day to play, talk or help in projects. They became inseparable. Lucy had told them that her age was fourteen and it turned out that Flora and Jake, who were twins, were also fourteen and Jane, the baby sister, was ten.

Lucy, as we must call her now, was to report to heaven each night. She gave them this news and they were satisfied. They told Varsha to continue trying to gain the kids trust.

Varsha (Lucy) had now known Flora and rest for over a month. She concluded that this was the time for inspection. She told them to accompany her on a picnic to Blueberry Hills. They took a large quantity of food with them, cakes, sandwiches, biscuits and chocolates.
They reached Blueberry Hills after two hour bike ride and they were exhausted. They stopped under the shade of an oak tree and munched their meal.

Lucy started the topic of gods. She enquired, “Do you know somebody called god, I read about him in the library”.

Jake and Jane shook their heads but Flora spoke up. “Isn’t he the supernatural power which people believed earlier?”
“Oh! You mean that, but let’s change the topic of talk.” said Jane in her low voice.
Varsha was shocked. She had not expected this. She asked “All your friends don’t believe in gods?”
“No, they don’t. Do you?” answered Jake.
Varsha went blank for a moment. Then she calmly stated “What do you think created you?”
“I don’t actually know, but science has explained this. We have it in our course this year.”Replied Flora thoughtfully. And then she added, “Science has made us powerful and above all living things.”
“But are not the animals powerful” inquired Varsha, amazed.
Jake looked at her mockingly, “Of course not, they are just brain-less, hand-less creatures meant to help us.”
Jane also joined in,” Yes, I agree. It’s true that they are living but, I am sorry, not powerful.”

Varsha had now analyzed the problems of mankind. They were very proud and in a dream of being the greatest. They had neglected the other co- existing beings. She wanted to report this incident and air her ideas to heaven and this could only be done after getting rid of these children, even if they were friends. So she put up an act of having a stomach ache and said,” I am not feeling well. Result of extra ice-creams I guess. Anyway I think that I will feel better after a rest and so see I am going home but you continue your day out. I couldn’t bear that you miss your day out because of me.” saying this she rushed down the hill shouting hurried Byes.

She had brainwave. She was eager to report all this to her headquarters, heaven. As she reached an isolated place, she disappeared. She intended to break out this news to everybody as fast as possible. She reached heaven in a jiffy and called a meeting.
When everybody came, she described the incident . After that she said “Why not give some brains as that of humans to apes and other animals along with basic magic. Then humans will have competition and that would make them stay in place and we are not even hurting them. We are just giving some extra brains to deserved creatures. This will land people in problems and they will know who the Supreme is.” Everyone loved this idea, but Eliza, a fairy, pointed out a flaw. “But still the four legged creatures don’t have hands.” “Good point, but we can develop their fore limbs into hands” called Brahma, a chief angel.

So Varsha again sent to earth, this time with her wand and powers. She was to do magic and make changes in the animals. She reached her destination and..

SHOW US YOUR POWERS, OH WAND,
AND CHANGE THE FOUR LEGGED CREATURES OF THIS LAND
INTO HUMANS WITH BRAINS AND HANDS.

BOOM! Lo behold, every creature with four legs may it be a mole or a giraffe had two hands and brains. The magic had turned them into fast thinking animals and were given the boon of not being proud. They were given a sort of fast forward and everything became very developed quickly. By the end of the decade, they were as advanced as humans, even more. Giraffe had invented telescopes and space ships which explored Uranus, let alone Mars. Rabbits and hares had made a tablet which could change our size. Tigers had adopted a way to change the taste of food they eat and lions had discovered a way by which they could go to any place any time. They were all far more advanced than humans.
Varsha laughed by seeing all this, specially the plight of humans. They were all astonished and their pride had fallen on earth. Their discoveries were nothing compared to the previous brainless creatures. They were very surprised and had not expected this.

This continued for a long time and animals discovered new things but were not proud. Humans racked their brains about what had made the animals so developed suddenly, but it was not until fifty years that a smart boy hit the right idea, “I think the Supreme belief, god, was true and he is angry with us for being proud and merciless. And out of anger has done this. So we should go and apologize to him, by praying”. This was broadcasted and people began to think about it and majority believed it was true. Then they prayed to the Almighty and it was only after many humble apologies, prayers and vows that King Indra was convinced they were sorry. After consulting his jury, he took away the brains of animals and advised humans that if they again became proud, they would not be forgiven.
After that humans never became proud but used their brains for a good cause, but always remembered who the supreme was. All their discoveries were banned from use and they intended to have a fresh and better beginning again.
And this story was told to children worldwide to teach them never to be proud, by the name GOD’S WAY.

Hope you liked it. Please leave your suggestions.
